Joshua Ziemann is a pianist, percussionist, music director, educator, and composer based in Boston, MA. He can be found regularly performing as an improv comedy pianist and music director at Improv Asylum and Laugh Boston. In 2017, he was involved in Baltimore Center Stage’s production of Mary Zimmerman’s The White Snake as co-composer, musician, and actor. As an MD, conductor, or accompanist he has worked with various regional, educational, and community theaters such as The Winthrop Playmakers, Vokes Players, Back Bay Repertory Theater, Riverside Theater Works, Curry College, Boston College High School, PAC Metrowest, and Rhode Island School of Design. He has worked as a pit musician for Mass Music & Arts Society, Wellesley Theater Project, Nobles and Greenough School, Liars and Believers, Boston University, and many others.

Outside of the theater, he composes his own music, which draws from a wealth of jazz, fusion, electronica, experimental rock, and classical influences. He currently drums for the psychedelic-funk-rock band, Instant Shawarma, which toured through the Northeast U.S. and Canada in 2018. In the past few years, he has performed with other bands in the Equilibrium Concert Series, Rhode Island Pride Festival, Make Music Boston, and the Outside the Box Festival.

Josh has taught at Bunker Hill Community College, Quincy College, and Emmanuel College. He studied at Illinois Wesleyan University, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and Longy School of Music.
